The biggest sewing mistake I have made was to sew for an
unappreciative family member. Other friends and family are honored
when I create a sewing gift for them. I’m often told how
professional my products look. Although this unhappy person
requested I sew for her and her children she was never happy with
the results. It was either too big, too small, wrong style, wrong
color, or just not wanted – even when she picked the fabric and
patterns and I paid for it all. My solution was to distance myself
from her, spend time sewing for others and delight in their joy with
what I have made for them.

When making special outfits for children I always make samples with
pieced leftovers. Some of these samples have inspired a whole new
look and is sometimes even preferred over the special outfit.
