Changes for French Nightgown in May/June 2002, page 31

Materials (for complete gown)

3 yds white pima batiste
1 yd. narrow eyelet edging for neck edge
2 yds 2" eyelet edging for front yoke and arm opening
2 2/3 yds 1/2" eyelet insertion with entreudeux on each side
1/2 yd entreudeux for neck edge

Front Yoke Adaptation

Cut two pieces of pima batiste 11" x 4 3/4" instead of 11"x7".  Make six 1/8" tucks, evenly spaced, starting 1/2" from each 11" edge.  Roll and whip by machine each 11" edge after tucks are made.  Starting from inside edge, you are now ready to "build" the front yoke. For right front yoke, cut a piece of the 2" edging to fit inside edge of pattern piece.  Roll and whip raw edge.  Cut insertion to fit rolled and whipped edge of 2" edging. (Make sure to add length to top edge as you go so your finished piece will be slightly bigger than pattern piece.) Attach these two pieces having insertion on right. Add tucked piece to right edge of insertion.  Add another piece of insertion to right side of tucked piece. Repeat this process in opposite direction for left front yoke piece.  Press both pieces well and cut out with yoke pattern piece, making sure you have right sides together.  Continue with instructions from pattern using 1/2" eyelet edging that has been rolled, whipped and gathered instead of lace for neck edge.
