      How to make Greeting Tags
      Materials
  • Vellum (available from art supply stores) cut into 2  1/2" x 3" rectangles (two rectangles for each tag)
  • Sequins and/or confetti; button
  • Sulky metallic thread
  • Cord
  • Twin needle
  • Ribbon
  • Kreinik #16 medium braid
General Instructions

Cut two pieces of vellum to desired size. Place sequins or confetti between pieces. With decorative stitches of your choice, using a twin or single needle and Sulky thread, stitch close to edge of
vellum. Punch a hole in corner of tag, and insert cord.

Tree: Attach sequin to corner of vellum.


Snowflake: Enclose ribbon in vellum, and stitch around shape of ribbon. Attach snowflake on outside.

Button: With a zigzag stitch and Sulky gold metallic thread, stitch over Kreinik medium #16 metallic braid at edge of vellum. Glue button at end; attach cord.


 
     How to make Gift Cards
     Materials
  • Purchased cards
  • Perforated paper
  • Gold paper
  • Gold ribbon
  • Two 1/4" red buttons
  • Small amount of 7mm green silk ribbon
  • Sulky thread spool
  • Stamp pad
  • Sulky metallic thread
  • Invisible thread
  • Stabilizer
  • Scrap of fabric for bell and stocking
  • Templates for bell and stocking (see Pull- out)
  • DMC floss
  • Mini clothes pins
  • Gold cord
Holly: Cut perforated paper and gold paper to fit purchased card size. Cut 5  1/2" of gold ribbon. Fold in half, and attach to perforated paper with several stitches. Glue two 1/4" buttons over gold ribbon. Refer to photograph for placement. To form leaves, stitch 2 or 3 ribbon stitches with 7mm green silk ribbon. Glue perforated paper to gold paper; glue to purchased card.

Wreath: With a Sulky thread spool dipped in paint, ink or stamp pad, stamp in a circle forming wreath. Tie bow, and attach to card with glue.

Bells: Thread a machine embroidery needle with Sulky embroidery thread and metallic thread. Use invisible thread in bobbin. Using a stabilizer on wrong side of fabric, stitch a 3" x 3" square, forming a plaid design. Trace bell  ( PDF format requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) shape onto stitched fabric. Stitch around shape; cut close to stitching. Glue bell shape, embellishment and bow to folded card.


Package: Thread a machine embroidery needle with Sulky embroidery thread and metallic thread. Use invisible thread in bobbin.

Wrap DMC floss around a 2"-long piece of cardboard. Slide floss off cardboard; tie knot in center, forming bow.

Cut a 1" square from stitched fabric. Wrap floss around package as shown. Attach to card. Glue floss bow to top.


Stocking: Glue mini clothes pins to card. Glue gold cord onto clothes pins. Cut stocking shapes (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) )from fabric . Glue stocking under gold cord.

Here are more great ideas for gift cards and tags!
· Use pinking shears or scissors which cut a decorative edge to trim around tags.
· On vellum, trace around holiday cookie cutters-candy canes, Christmas trees, angels, gingerbread man-using colored or metallic markers for a festive look.
· Spray vellum with adhesive (such as Sulky K2000) and sprinkle with glitter.
· Use mini rickrack as a border around tags.
· Try different colors of vellum and background paper.
· Use assorted buttons to decorate corners of tags and cards.
· Use any of these ideas as tree decorations.
