Try this fast and easy needlecase, perfect a first stitching project or a last-minute gift. Tuck one into a stocking, or add thread, buttons and a pair of scissors for a personal sewing kit.

Materials
  • Template and embroidery design
  • 10" square of felt in desired color
  • 4mm YLI silk ribbon in 31 (green), 33 (green), 14
  • (pale yellow) and 114 (mauve)
    Floss to match mauve and yellow ribbons
  • White sewing thread
  • 15" antique or new lace edging
  • Small glass beads
Instructions

Cut 4 hearts from felt. Complete silk ribbon embroidery on one heart. Secure ribbons on back with tacking stitches.

 

Place embroidered heart on top of second heart. Work whip stitching around edges with matching floss. Keep stitches small and close together, stitching around entire piece. On third heart shape, tack gathered edging along outside edge of heart.

 

Stack hearts, with lace-edged heart in the middle, and embroidered heart on top. Refer to illustration.

Sew all layers of hearts together by whip stitching across top portion from dot to dot. Keep stitches small and close together.
