Instructions
Cut the pocket pants following instructions in the "Lauren's Pocket Pants" pattern.
1. Read through all directions before beginning the appliqué
design.
2. Preshink all fabrics.
3. Place the paper-backed fusible web, with paper side up, over the wrong side of the bunny
appliqué fabric.
4. Press with a hot, dry iron. Allow fabric to cool.
5. Trace around the appliqué design. Cut out appliqué piece.
6. Remove paper from fusible web backing.
7. Position the appliqué design's lower edges even with the left side of the waist seam, approximately 11/2" to the right of the left side
pocket.
8. Following manufacturer's directions, fuse appliqué piece to right side of the garment
fabric.
9. Using the appliqué pattern as a guide, cut tearaway stabilizer at least 2" larger. On the wrong side of the fabric, place stabilizer piece under the
appliqué area. Pin in place.
10. In preparation for sewing, set machine for a closely spaced zigzag stitch and desired stitch width. Note: The needle thread tension may need to be loosened to prevent the bobbin thread from
showing.
11. Sew the appliqué piece with satin stitches around perimeter of the
pattern.
12. By hand, sew on the bunny's tail (pom-pom) in the bottom center of the bunny
appliqué. 13. Face details may be added to the bunny, using hand embroidery stitches, such as French knots for the eyes and backstitches for the
mouth.
Tips for machine appliqué:
- Use a machine appliqué presser foot.
- If possible, use the "needle down" position. This allows the needle to stop in the fabric for ease when pivoting the fabric.
- Slightly loosen the top thread tension of the machine to prevent bobbin thread from showing.
- Remember to place tearaway backing on the wrong side of the fabric.
- Maintain an even edge by covering only the raw edge of the appliqué.
