1. Transfer design to center of 8" square of linen. See Illustration 1 and Illustration 2. Do not cut out. Use 6 strands of floss for French and Palestrina knots. All other stitches use 4 strands. See stitch and color keys on drawing. 2. Before working satin stitch on scallops, outline them in backstitch. Work satin stitch over outlines. 3. To stitch bullion knot roses, work center 3 knots with 4 strands of pink. Work a second set of 3 knots overlapping the first group of knots using light pink. Work a 3rd set of knots in pale pink, overlapping second group of knots. Use 6 strands of floss for outer 2 sets of knots. 4. Block embroidery when complete. 5. Cut out heart embroidery along cutting lines indicated on drawing. Clip fabric at ¼" intervals as shown. Apply Fray Check® to clipped edges. 6. Following pattern, cut out cardboard pieces, polyester fleece and moiré backing piece, as illustrated. Trace pattern on reverse side of moire, and add ½" fabric allowance beyond traced lines as shown. Clip curves at ¼" intervals, almost to traced line. 7. Place fleece shape over cardboard shape. Center embroidered design over fleece on cardboard. Turn everything over so that cardboard is facing up. 8. Apply a thin layer of glue to edge of cardboard. Bring up clipped edges of linen, pressing them down onto glued edge. 9. Glue scalloped edging around outer edge of cardboard back, clipping base of edging before gluing to make it more flexible, if necessary. 10. Glue an 8" length of green ribbon to cardboard back to form hanger loop. 11. For back, assemble and glue as for front piece. 12. Glue front and back halves of heart together.
